Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a premier Miniratna Schedule ‘A’ company under the Government of India, has announced a recruitment drive for various boat crew positions on a fixed-term contract basis. Available Positions and Eligibility Criteria

CSL is inviting applications for the following posts:

1. Serang (on contract basis)

Qualification: Pass in VII standard and a valid Serang/Lascar cum Serang Certificate issued by the Competent Authority.
Experience: Minimum one year of experience as a Serang of a Motor Boat.
Vacancies: 9 (UR – 6, OBC – 1, SC – 2)
Salary: ₹23,300 per month (first year), increasing to ₹24,800 by the third year, with additional compensation for extra hours.

2. Engine Driver (on contract basis)

Qualification: Pass in VII standard and a valid Engine Driver Certificate issued by the Competent Authority.
Experience: Minimum one year of experience as an Engine Driver of a Motor Boat.
Vacancies: 1 (UR – 1)
Salary: ₹23,300 per month (first year), increasing to ₹24,800 by the third year, with additional compensation for extra hours.

3. Lascar (Floating Craft) (on contract basis)

Qualification: Pass in VII standard and a valid Certificate of Competency (Lascar) issued by the Competent Authority.
Experience: Minimum one year of experience as a Lascar of a Motor Boat.
Vacancies: 1 (UR – 1)
Salary: ₹22,100 per month (first year), increasing to ₹23,400 by the third year, with additional compensation for extra hours.

Start Date for Online Applications: January 29, 2025
Last Date for Online Applications: February 13, 2025

Selection Process

The selection process consists of a Practical Test, conducted out of 100 marks. Minimum passing marks are:

UR candidates: 50%
OBC candidates (only for reserved posts): 45%
SC candidates (only for reserved posts): 40%

In case of a tie in marks, seniority in age will determine ranking.

Age Limit & Relaxation

Maximum Age: 30 years (as of February 13, 2025)
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates: 3-year relaxation
SC Candidates: 5-year relaxation
Overall age limit (after relaxations): 45 years

Application Fee

General/OBC Candidates: ₹200 (plus bank charges)
SC/ST Candidates: Exempted from fee payment

General Conditions

The job involves physical labor in challenging conditions such as handling ropes, anchor work, and vessel maintenance.
PwBD candidates are not eligible for these positions due to the nature of the work.
The contract period is up to three years, subject to project requirements and individual performance.
Candidates must upload all required documents while applying, including proof of age, educational qualifications, and work experience.
The rank list of selected candidates will be valid for 18 months for filling up future vacancies.
