The Intelligence Bureau (Ministry of Home Affairs) invites online applications for direct recruitment to the post of Security Assistant/Executive (SA/Exe) in the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaux (SIBs). Total vacancies (all SIBs combined): 4,987.
1) Drive covers (short summary)
- Post: Security Assistant / Executive (Group C, Non-Gazetted).
- Total vacancies: 4,987 (UR 2,471 | OBC-NCL 1,015 | SC 574 | ST 426 | EWS 501).
- Pay: Level-3 (₹21,700–₹69,100) plus admissible Central Govt. allowances. Special Security Allowance @ 20% of basic pay is payable as per notification.

3) Who can apply — essential eligibility
- Nationality: Indian nationals.
- Educational qualification: Matriculation (10th class pass) or equivalent from a recognized board. The candidate must possess their essential qualification on or before the closing date (final results declared by closing date).
- Language / dialect: Mandatory — applicant must know (read, write & speak) at least one language/dialect listed for the SIB they apply to.
- PwBD: Post is not identified suitable for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities — they need not apply.
- Age: 18–27 years as on 17.08.2025 (closing date). Relaxations apply per category and specific Government/O.M. rules (SC/ST +5 yrs, OBC +3 yrs, ex-servicemen / departmental relaxations as specified).
4) Scheme of examination & selection stages
- Tier-I (Online, Objective MCQs) — 100 marks, 1 hour. Five parts, 20 questions each (1 mark Q):
a) General Awareness, b) Quantitative Aptitude, c) Numerical/Analytical/Logical Ability & Reasoning, d) English Language, e) General Studies. Negative marking: 0.25 for each wrong answer. - Tier-II (Written, Descriptive) — 50 marks, 1 hour: Translation of a 500-word passage from opted language/dialect to English and vice-versa. (Tier-II is qualifying: minimum 20/50 required to pass.)
- Tier-III (Interview / Personality Test) — 50 marks. Final selection based on combined performance in Tier-I and Tier-III (waiting list will be maintained).
Shortlisting rules:
- Cut-offs in Tier-I (minimum): UR-30 | OBC-28 | SC/ST-25 | EWS-30 (Ex-servicemen treated in their own category). Actual cut-offs may be higher depending on marks distribution.
- Shortlist to Tier-II: ~10 × vacancies (based on normalized Tier-I marks & meeting cut-off).
- Shortlist to Tier-III (Interview): ~5 × vacancies (subject to passing Tier-II with min 20/50).
- Final merit list: Based on combined Tier-I and Tier-III marks (subject to character/antecedent & medical clearance).
- Tie-breaking order (if equal combined score): Tier-I marks → Tier-III marks → Date of birth (older first) → Alphabetical order.
5) Important dates & application window
- Opening date for online registration: 26 July 2025.
- Closing date for online application (with online fee): 17 August 2025 (23:59 hrs).
- Last date to submit fee via SBI challan (offline): 19 August 2025 (banking hours — e-challan valid 4 days).
- Apply only through: MHA website (www.mha.gov.in) OR NCS portal (www.ncs.gov.in). Applications by any other mode will NOT be accepted.
6) Fee, mode of payment & exemptions
- Two components: Examination Fee ₹100 + Recruitment Processing Charges ₹550. Total ₹650 for male UR/OBC/EWS candidates (₹100 + ₹550).
- Exemptions: All SC/ST candidates, female candidates and Ex-Servicemen (eligible for reservation) are exempted from the ₹100 exam fee but must pay the ₹550 processing charge. Certain Ex-Servicemen who already secured regular civilian Group C posts after availing reservation benefits must pay the ₹100 too (see notification).
- Payment modes: Online via SBI EPAY LITE (debit/credit/netbanking/UPI) or SBI challan (offline last-date rules apply). Fee once paid will not be refunded.
7) Documents & upload specifications (while applying)
- Mandatory to keep ready before applying: valid e-mail ID & mobile number; passport-size colour photograph (100–200 KB, jpg/jpeg) — not older than 12 weeks; signature (80–150 KB, jpg/jpeg); valid photo ID proof; Class X certificate (DOB proof); marksheets/certificates for higher qualifications if acquired; domicile certificate for the SIB applied for.
- OBC / EWS / SC / ST certificates: Must be in the prescribed Govt of India format (Appendices in the notification). OBC certificates must be central list format and not indicate creamy layer.
- Note: No hard copy of application is required at initial stage; originals will be asked later during document verification.
8) Exam centres & city choices
- A long list of examination centres across India is provided in the advertisement — candidates must indicate 5 options for Tier-I; IB may allot any one of these and reserves the right to change/cancel centres for administrative reasons. 9) Reservation, Ex-Servicemen & special notes
- Reservation for OBC/SC/ST/EWS/ESM is as per Government rules and rosters; vacancies for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) are allocated centrally (i.e., not pre-allocated to individual SIBs) — selection among ESM will be merit-based and vacancies allotted to the SIB of the selected candidate.
- Note: Vacancies shown are provisional and subject to change.
10) Important general instructions
- Do not share progress on social media (IB cautions candidates not to publicise selection stages).
- Beware fraudsters: IB warns about unscrupulous elements offering help / fake appointment letters — apply only via official MHA/NCS portals.
- Mobile phones & electronic gadgets are banned in exam halls — possession leads to cancellation of candidature.
- Admit cards, call letters & other communications will be sent via the registered e-mail ID / SMS only. Keep your e-mail/mobile active.
